During the hiatus caused by the Coronavirus epidemic the Choral and Organ Scholarships normally offered by St Mary's Church are suspended until further notice. However we set out below the proceedure adopted hitherto
"St Mary’s Church usually offers Choral and Organ Scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate students and pre-university gap year students. They are also available to students in school years 10 and above.
Sing cathedral style services with our professional singers in a beautiful and historic Grade 1 listed church, with opportunities to sing solo and duo anthems, and to perform in informal recitals.
- Monthly Parish Eucharist services on the 3rd Sunday of the month
- Several services of Choral Evensong per year
- Christmas Carol Service, Advent Carol Service, Easter Day Eucharist
- Opportunities to sing solos and duets and to take part in Scholars’ Recital
Remuneration: dependent on number of scholars appointed.
These choral scholarships offer a similar experience to a cathedral choir, but with a much lighter commitment. They are ideal for those considering e.g. university choral scholarships, and are complimentary to participation in e.g. Eton Choral Courses, National Youth Choir etc.
St Mary’s is the oldest church in Surrey, built c.AD 670 in Saxon times. It has a famed 1975 Frobenius organ. The church music is supported by the RC Sherriff Trust, and the Ouseley Church Music Trust.
Applications can be made by downloading, completing the application form and sending to Robert Wooley.
Please contact Robert Woolley, Director of Music for more information and to apply."
The 2019 Ouseley Choral Scholars were welcomed with a glass of wine in the hall after Parish Eucharist on Sunday 20 January.
Celia, Devon, Emily Chapman, Emily Christian and Andrew are students at Royal Holloway College,
